Tattoo National Tour - That's a Wrap!
Tattoo premiered to sold-out audiences in an extended run at On the Boards, Behnke Center for the Performing Arts in Seattle, in January 2000. The third piece in a trilogy of works following Faith and Sleep (making peace with the angels) by nationally known choreographer Pat Graney, the piece toured to 11 US cities, culminating to rave reviews in New York City in May 2001.
Heralded by critics as one of the country's top modern choreographers, Graney spent three years creating Tattoo, which explores the intersection of humanity's relationship to nature and the influence of modern innovations in technology.
The piece was originally inspired by Marilyn Lysohir's large-scale ceramic installation "the Tattooed Ladies and the Dinosaurs." Calling on a wide range of talented artists, Pat Graney combined the bold athletic movement of her dancers with original music by Bessie award-winning composer Amy Denio, the "Metal Skirt Sculpture" by composer Ellen Fullman, and the Tattoo artistry of George Long. Ms Graney's long-term collaboration with visual artist Marilyn Lysohir and her current collaboration with Seattle visual artist Mary Ann Peters created a piece that not only lives up to Graney's reputation for innovative and surprising presentations but proved to be visually stunning as well.
Tattoo featured five professional movement artists: Saiko Kobayashi, Allison Cockrill, Sandra Fann, Amy O'Neal, and Kim Root. The piece is one of the most powerful and affecting performances in the history of the Pat Graney Company.
