This October Seattle will have the national premiere of “Becoming a Man in 127 EASY Steps” by Scott Turner Schofield. The show is a part of a three part artist residency series that Schofield is doing through the Pat Graney Company. All residencies include community involvement, this years being with Universities and queer community groups in Seattle and Olympia, with workshops and lectures. This residency series is a part of Pat Graney Company promoting and supporting the innovative work of young artists, making an effort to create intergenerational awareness and bridge building in the arts and queer communities.

Scott Turner Schofield is a man who was a woman, a lesbian turned straight guy (who is mostly read as a gay man), creating theater about gender and sexuality in the Deep South. Obviously, his work centers on comedic contradictions. Touring the acclaimed solos “Underground Transit” and “Debutante Balls” since 2001, Schofield “reaches out to the Average Joe with a mix of humor, honesty, and vulnerability.” UTNE Reader. Working with the Pat Graney Company, 7 Stages, and DiverseWorks, Schofield became the first openly transgender artist to be commissioned by the National Performance Network in 2007. He is also the youngest-ever recipient of a Tanne Foundation Award for Commitment to Artistic Excellence, and is currently a Princess Grace Foundation-USA Gant Gaither Acting Fellow and Artistic Associate at 7 Stages in Atlanta.

Becoming a Man is a roller coaster ride through your heart, your soul, and your genitals. Scott Turner Schofield is one of my favorite performing artists, and I can't wait to see this daring young man step out onto the stage with this one.”
